This Privacy Policy explains how Contract Guardians collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our mobile application(s), website(s), and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1) What We Collect
A. Information you provide
We collect information you provide directly, such as:
Account & profile information
- Name, email address, phone number
- Account credentials (we store securely; never share your password)
- Profile details you choose to add (company name, service categories, bio, profile photo)
Project information
- Project requests, descriptions, budgets, preferences
- Property/job location details you submit (e.g., address for a Project)
- Proposals, scopes, milestones, change orders, approvals, and related documentation
- Messages between users and files you upload (photos, videos, PDFs, receipts)
Contractor verification & eligibility information (Contractors)
To support Platform standards, we may collect or process information such as:
- Identity verification details (e.g., government ID data or verification results)
- Business details and documentation
- Licensing information (where applicable)
- Insurance information and related documentation
- References or other supporting documents (if requested)
Support and communications
- Information you share when contacting support
- Survey responses, feedback, and issue reports
B. Payments & subscription information
We use Stripe to facilitate payment features (including card payments and Contractor payouts where enabled). Depending on your use of Payment Services:
- Stripe may collect payment card information and payout onboarding details (e.g., tax forms, bank account info) directly.
- We may receive limited payment-related information (e.g., confirmation that a payment succeeded, last 4 digits, card brand, payout status, transaction IDs).
We do not store full card numbers in our systems.
If you purchase subscriptions through Apple or Google, those platforms process payments and provide us limited purchase status information (e.g., active subscription status).
C. Information collected automatically
When you use the Services, we may automatically collect:
- Device information (device model, OS version, app version)
- Log data (IP address, timestamps, crash reports, diagnostic data)
- Usage data (screens/features used, actions taken, performance metrics)
- Approximate location derived from IP (and precise location only if you grant device permission and a feature needs it)
D. Information from third parties
We may receive information from:
- Stripe (payment and payout processing status)
- Identity/verification providers (verification results and signals)
- App stores (subscription status, not full payment details)
- Service providers that help us operate the Services (e.g., hosting, analytics, communications)
2) How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services
- Create and manage accounts and user profiles
- Facilitate Projects, proposals, milestones, change orders, and communications
- Enable Payment Services (where available) and prevent fraud
- Support contractor verification/eligibility processes
- Provide customer support and respond to requests
- Send service-related messages (e.g., confirmations, security alerts, important updates)
- Personalize user experience (e.g., matching, sorting, recommendations)
- Maintain safety, security, and integrity, including detecting prohibited conduct
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms
3) How We Share Information
We share information in the following ways:
A. Sharing between users (Homeowners and Contractors)
Some information is shared as part of normal marketplace functionality, for example:
- A Contractor’s profile and business details may be visible to Homeowners
- A Homeowner’s Project details are shared with Contractors involved in bidding/working the Project
- Messages, proposals, milestones, files, and approvals are shared between the users participating in that Project
B. Service providers
We share information with vendors who help us run the Services, such as:
- Stripe for payment processing and payouts
- Cloud hosting and storage providers
- Analytics, diagnostics, and crash reporting providers
- Communications providers (email, SMS, push notifications)
These providers are authorized to use information only as needed to provide services to us.
C. Legal, safety, and compliance
We may disclose information if we believe it’s necessary to:
- Comply with law, regulation, subpoena, or legal process
- Protect the rights, property, and safety of Contract Guardians, our users, or others
- Investigate or prevent fraud, security issues, or violations of our Terms
D. Business transfers
If we’re involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
E. We do not sell your personal information
We do not sell personal information for money. If we ever introduce practices that could be considered a “sale” or “targeted advertising” under certain state laws, we will provide required disclosures and opt-out choices.
4) Your Choices and Controls
A. Account information
You can access and update certain account/profile information in the app.
B. Permissions (mobile)
You can control mobile permissions (camera, photos, location, notifications) in your device settings. If you deny a permission, some features may not work.
C. Marketing communications
If we send marketing emails, you can opt out using the unsubscribe link. You will still receive important service and account messages.
D. Account deletion
You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing info@contractorguardians.com with the subject line “Account Deletion Request”. We may need to verify your identity before completing the request.
5) Data Retention
We keep information as long as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide the Services and maintain your account
- Complete Projects and keep records of transactions and communications
- Comply with legal, tax, accounting, and reporting requirements
- Resolve disputes and enforce agreements
When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it. Some information may be retained longer if required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention, compliance, dispute records).
6) Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7) Children’s Privacy
The Services are not intended for children under 13 (or under the age where parental consent is required). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided information, contact us at info@contractorguardians.com.
8) International Users
We are based in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., your information may be processed and stored in the U.S. or other locations where we or our service providers operate.
9) Colorado Privacy Act (Colorado Residents)
If you are a Colorado resident, you may have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccuracies
- Delete personal data
- Obtain a portable copy of personal data (where applicable)
- Opt out of certain processing, such as targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, or profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects
To exercise these rights, email info@contractorguardians.com with the subject “Colorado Privacy Request” and describe your request. We may need to verify your identity. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision email with the subject “Colorado Privacy Appeal.” (CoAg)
10) Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy with a new Effective Date. If changes are material, we will provide notice as required by law (for example, in-app notice or email).
